Things to do in Little Holmby: Geffen Playhouse
Since 1995, Geffen Playhouse has been a hub of the Los Angeles theatre scene. Founded by theater, film and television luminary Gil Cates, the playhouse is named in honor of entertainment mogul and philanthropist David Geffen, who made the initial donation to the theater. Geffen Playhouse is proudly associated with UCLA, and an active member of the community welcoming an audience of more than 130,000 each year. In addition, it maintains a groundbreaking education and community engagement program that targets students, seniors and everyone in between who otherwise would not have access to live theater.
Noted for its intimacy and celebrated for its commitment to the development of new plays, Geffen Playhouse continues to present a body of work that garners national recognition – featuring a renowned mix of classic and contemporary plays as well as provocative world premiere productions.
Awarded more than 50 regional theater awards, including seven accolades for best overall productions, the theatre has also been host to well-known film and television actors for the past 20 years. Each season, audiences can delight in five plays in the Gil Cates Theater and three plays per season in the Audrey Skirball Kenis Theater, as well as participate in special events
